| Grgur Ninski Statue .He was the Bishop man that started the use of Croat language in religious teaching, and countered the desire of the Roman aristocrats and the Pope in 926. Gregory Nin continued religious ceremony n Croatian through his life, instead of use of Latin, and in today times became a symbol of pride for the people. They come to rub his toe for good luck, or make a secret wish to come true. The Italians still have a bit of distaste for him, and moved the statue out from inside the wall during the occupation in WWII. The sculpture was made by Ivan Mestrovic in 1929 to commemorate the 1000th year since Nin's use of cultural language in religion. It stands about 20 feet high, and is in the park on the north side of the walls. |

| What's going on on the picture, one might wonder, why are we drying our clothes in the middle of Split? While in Italy, senjoor Pino washed ALL our clothes (thousand thanks for that) and they had been wet in our bags since we left Turin, whole night we sailed to Croatia and half a day we spent looking around the old town..so we desperately needed to dry them and where would've beem the best place than not ina lovely green park, so, once again we set up our gypsy camp. And it didn't take long til the park ranger arrived and said pointing around us: "This, this, this and you must go!" |

| on a one wagon train from Zadar to Zagreb. Change over in Knin. Croatian rules - what rules!!? We were even given an ash tray so we could fully enjoy our Croatian rum hanging out train window , watching villages disappearing into darkness. |

| Once in Knin at 00:00 slightly buzzing on the rum we waited for our next train. Instead of train came a young Croatian soldier who informed us about the fire in the military's explosions warehouse and how the whole town had to be evacuated and the roads are closed..so no train. but there was a bus to pick us up and off we went...biggest detour around the area to another spot and by 3:00 am we were on another train heading to Zagreb. |
